At least 1 dead, up to 100 injured in Hoboken train crash

At least one person died this morning and as many as 100 are injured after a Pascack Valley NJ Transit train crashed into the Hoboken terminal during Thursday morning’s rush hour commute. Victims are being sent to Hoboken University Medical Center and Jersey City Medical.

“Most of the injuries appeared to be in the first car or people struck by debris inside the station. Passengers on the second car and behind it were able to exit the train, and some reportedly broke the emergency windows to escape.” —ABC 7 News

“The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.” —CNN

 

 

  • All PATH service has been suspended to/from Hoboken
  • NJ Transit buses will cross-honor PATH customers
  • Witnesses say the train went through the bumper block and through the depot hitting the roof of the station, which crashed down on the first two cars of the train
  • Witnesses say the train was going faster than it should have been traveling
