Best Things to Do in Jersey City Week of 8/28

It’s the last week of August and that means a three-day weekend awaits most of us. But before we unofficially say goodbye to summer, there’s still a shortlist of events happening in and around downtown this week.

Monday: Zeppelin Hall is celebrating the mighty pretzel with a special menu that features 13 different takes on everyone’s favorite bar snack — from pretzel grilled cheese to pretzel with nutella. Pretzel Mania will run through September 17.

Monday: Satisfy your shrimp cravings at Surf City as it celebrates Shrimp Tsunami with a special shrimp-focused menu featuring classics like New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp, Shrimp Boil, and Shrimp Scampi. The seafood fest ends September 17.

Monday: While technically not an event, from now through September 15 Vogue Cafe will take 10% off purchases of $25 or more when you follow them on social media and show them this post.

Wednesday: Learn everything there is to know about cheese — and get to taste various styles in the process — during Van Hook Cheese’s beginner’s guide to all things cheese. The class, which will be held at Van Hook, costs $35/pp.

Thursday: Love clams? Love pies? Jersey City Fish Stand is hosting a clam pie-eating contest that’ll be held at today’s Grove Street Farmers’ Market. Winner gets a $100 JC Fish Stand gift card (and serious bragging rights).

Thursday: New beer alert! Departed Soles Brewing Co. will release two new gluten-free beers today. New Jersey Ninja is a “hazy blonde with local honey and a touch of Japanese green tea,” whereas Rick Rolled-Oat Coffee Stout Version 2.0 (draft only) is described as being a bit sweeter than DS’ traditional ModCup of Sole.

Thursday: Twin Peaks and Sex & the City actor Kyle MacLachlan will be at SuperBuy Rite this evening for a tasting of his new line of wine, Pursued by Bear.
