Chef David Viana and his team have parted ways with The Kitchen at Grove Station. The restaurant abruptly closed its doors for emergency repairs, and chef Viana recently announced via Facebook that when the restaurant re-opens it will be under completely new management. The Kitchen at Grove Station offered one of the best and most inventive dining experiences you could find in downtown Jersey City. While it’s not completely clear why chef Viana and his team are parting ways with the Kitchen, we thank them for bringing such a top-quality dining experience to the heart of downtown. We wish the entire team the very best on their next adventure. (Side note: The restaurant will be open for New Year’s Eve dinner).

Sadly, the Kitchen at Grove is the third major restaurant in our neighborhood to close and/or undergo new management. Just last week Bell + Gray announced that it would not reopen after the holiday break and earlier in the season the team behind Thirty Acres announced that they were packing their bags and leaving Jersey City. The restaurant industry is notorious for being cutthroat, so we should remember to patronize the establishments (and small businesses) that we like as much as we possibly can. No official date has been given for the re-opening of the Kitchen at Grove Station.

Update: The original Facebook post has been edited, but here’s further confirmation of Viana’s departure.

Update 2: Chef David Viana has confirmed via Instagram that he and his team are parting ways with The Kitchen at Grove Station. The restaurant will re-open in 2016 with a new executive chef. Meanwhile, Viana hinted that he may have another Jersey City project in the works for 2016. Stay tuned.
