**City officials recently approved Detective Melvin Vincent Santiago’s Law (A-4105), which now requires guards hired by private companies to register with State police. Santiago, a 23-year-old officer, was fatally shot outside a Jersey City Walgreen’s on July 13, 2014. The gunman had stolen the weapon from a store security guard. —NJ.com
