Miso Ramen is the name of Newark Avenue’s latest restaurant set to open this fall in the space that was formerly Super Discount at 189 Newark Avenue (just off Jersey Avenue). I’ve noticed staff working on the interior over the weekends and recently popped in to ask a few questions. The restaurant is set to open in mid to late September (about the same time frame as Archer Bar across the street) and it will specialize in — you guessed it — ramen. Design-wise, they’re aiming to replicate the look and feel of a traditional ramen restaurant in Japan, with a long communal countertop table.
According to one of the designers/workers that I spoke with, the characters on the wall read “miso ramen.” I can’t read Japanese, but thanks to the magic of Google Translate, I was able to confirm that the latter characters do indeed read “ramen.” One last detail, the restaurant will be BYOB. A lot can happen between now and September, but here’s hoping they can stick to schedule or at the very least that they get to participate in the All About Downtown Street Fair.
