Neighborhood Events: 15th Annual Newport Tree Lighting, Holiday Markets for December

Thanksgiving week has arrived and for those of you staying local this week, we’ve rounded up a handful of foodie, fitness, and holiday events taking place in the coming days.

**Monday: Whealth is celebrating the soft opening of its first Jersey City cafe this week with a complimentary breakfast (coffee and banana maple oatmeal). The cafe will be open Monday through Wednesday of this week from the hours of 7am to 10am. The Whealth Cafe is located in the former Markers Express venue inside Harborside. —Whealth

**Tuesday: This Tuesday is the first 6th Borough Market Holiday Bazaar to be held at the Harborside Atrium from 11am to 3pm. The indoor market will feature local vintage, health, beauty, and food vendors. The pop-up market will run every Tuesday from 11am to 3pm. —Holiday Bazaar

**Wednesday: Don’t have plans for Thanksgiving eve? ChicpeaJC and Hayoner are hosting a Friendsgiving dance party at Cathedral Hall in collaboration with Premiere Vibes and 4th Street Arts. The event will include passed hors d’oeuvres by Whealth from 9pm to 11pm and a free whiskey tasting by Misunderstood Whiskey. (There will also be a cash bar onsite). Tickets are $10 online or $20 at the door. —Friendsgiving at Cathedral Hall

**Thanksgiving Day: Before you put the bird in the oven, head to the Jersey City waterfront esplanade for a 5K run with Whealth. The run is open to all runners and will be followed by a berry smoothie and cold brew coffee courtesy of Whealth. —Whealth Turkeytrot

**Thursday, Dec 1: The 15th Annual Newport Tree Lighting is almost upon us. Join Mayor Fulop and the Newport community for the lighting of Newport’s 30-foot tree followed by a synchronized light and music show across Newport’s Town Square (directly outside the PATH/Newport station). There will also be meet-and-greets with Santa, children’s train rides, Victorian Christmas carolers, and warm drinks and cookies provided by Morton Williams. The event runs from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, December 1; the lighting is scheduled for 6.30pm.

**Saturday, Dec 3: Kick-start your holiday shopping at the fourth annual Project: Market to be held on Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4. The market, which is located behind City Hall at 280 Grove Street, runs from 11am to 6pm and will feature a mix of local food, drink, and artisanal vendors from the likes of Ahri’s Kitchen, Modcup Coffee, The Lucky Honey Bee, and more. —Project: Market

**Thursday, Dec 8: Join Mayor Fulop for the annual Tree/Menorah Lighting at the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza. The ceremony will start at 5pm and include a guest appearance by Santa. —Holiday Lighting

**Friday, Dec 9: Midnight Market — a night time international food market — will be back on Friday, December 9 at the Harborside Atrium. Admission is $5 and all plates/food will cost no more than $5 each. —Midnight Market
