Neighborhood Events: Mathews Opens on Wednesday, City Nights Block Party, Gelato-Making Classes at Bucket & Bay


**Another week, another big restaurant opening in Jersey City. This Wednesday, Mathews Food & Drink will open its doors to the public. The restaurant is specializing in “casual American fare” with a cocktail program created by Cody Goldstein of Muddling Memories. **Super Buy-Rite Jersey City invites you to meet master Laphroaig distiller, John Campbell, this Monday for a special whisky tasting and bottle signing. The event will run from 3pm till 5pm at Super Buy-Rite at 575 Manila Avenue. —Buy Rite

**Tickets are still available for Thursday’s Taste of Hudson County, an evening of drinks and bites from Talde, Choc-O-Pain, Fire & Oak, Latham House, Skinner’s Loft, Ani Ramen, Van Hook Cheese, Bucket & Bay, and Cellar 335, among many more. **The Shuster Group is hosting its first “City Nights” block party, an adults-only event with food and drinks by Würstbar, Hamilton Pork, Bucket & Bay, and Transmission, among others. There will also be live music by Giselle and Conundrum. The event is free to attend and will run from 7pm till 10pm at 148 First Street. —City Nights

**Bucket & Bay Craft Gelato is hosting a series of gelato-making classes for adults and children this month. Classes range from a gelato-making workshop to a special cider week class. **A new Target store is opening on Varick and Greenwich, just steps away from the WTC PATH hub in Tribeca. The store will soft open on Wednesday, October 5 with plenty of pop-up stores offering a variety of services from free food to free manicures. —Observer
