Neighborhood Events: Newport Skates Opens November 19, Kobra Mural Unveiling This Friday

newport-skates**Newport Skates — downtown’s only outdoor ice skating rink — will open for the season on Saturday, November 19. The rink will be open seven days a week including holidays. Admission to the rink is $7 and skate rentals cost $6. Private lessons and season passes are also available. The rink is located on 95 River Drive South. Newport residents will have access to the rink starting on Friday, November 18 and will also qualify for half-price admission. —Newport Skates

**Around 10,000 downtown residents lost power Monday night just before 10pm. According to PSE&G, the outage was due to equipment failure and various customers had their power restored by midnight. —ABC7

**Join Mayor Fulop and city officials for the unveiling of Eduardo Kobra’s Bowie tribute/mural. **Oenophiles, listen up: this Thursday Lourdes of the Vine and Mana Wine are hosting a special class on everything pinot noir. The class will include tastings from six different pinot noir producers as well as cheese plates from Madame Claude Bis. Tickets are $55 per person. **Uber has announced that it will raise prices to offset New Jersey’s new higher gas tax. Fares in New Jersey will increase by 2 cents per mile to help “drivers’ bottom lines, without impacting affordability for riders.” —The Record

**Save the date: Jersey City’s Office of Innovation is throwing the city’s first Hackathon to be held at the newly opened &co working space. The theme of the event will be sustainability and the hackathon will be open to entrepreneurs, designers, technologists, activists, and all residents.
