Neighborhood Events: Orwell’s 1984 at Loew’s Theater, Pacific Flea Returns

Tuesday: The Loew’s Theater and the JC Free Public Library have teamed up for a special (and timely) screening of Orwell’s 1984. Michael Radford’s adaptation of the novel will be shown at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $10/pp. Proceeds will benefit the JCFPL and the Loew’s Theater.

Tuesday: Marketplace JC is back at the Harborside Atrium with a variety of returning and new vendors. Among them you’ll find Outer Limits Hot Sauce, Taproot Organics, and more. The market is open to everyone and is held every Tuesday from 11am to 3pm.

Wednesday: Hewitt Vineyards’ John Hazek will host a wine and dinner tasting at Third & Vine Wednesday evening. The night will feature 10 wines highlighting different vineyard locations across Napa Valley. Third & Vine chef Lynn Wheeler has also prepared a special 4-course dinner menu for the event. The event starts at 7pm and tickets are $75/pp.

Wednesday: The Culinary Arts Institute at Hudson County Community College is hosting its first annual Food For Thought seminar (10am to 2pm) for restaurateurs and industry professionals. The event will feature panels on sustainability, community gardening, and farm to table which will be followed by demonstrations and food tastings.

Wednesday: Hudson Kitchen is hosting its sixth bootcamp class — for foodie entrepreneurs — focusing on how to create attention for your brand on the cheap. The class will be held at the Hudson County Community College and will include a light dinner and networking opportunities. Admission is $50/pp.

Saturday: Ready for some outdoor markets? Pacific Flea is kicking off Jersey City’s 2017 market season as it makes its grand debut for the new year. Located in Bergen Lafayette, Pacific Flea spotlights antique and vintage items, local live music, curated art shows, outdoor street art, and local food.

Saturday: Join Con Vivo Music as they celebrate 10 years of playing classical music in Jersey City and prep for their 2017 season. The Spring Gala will feature classical pianist Yukiko Tanaka, who will play works by Beethoven, Rachmaninov, and Chopin. Admission is $30/pp.

Saturday: JC Families and the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association present the 2017 Great Easter Egg Hunt — an event for kids that will include live music and various Easter egg hunts for children of all ages.

Saturday: Head to K9dergarten for See Spot Rescued’s Wags & Whiskers Adoption Event. SSR is a volunteer foster-based, rescue based in Jersey City. Their adoptopn event will run from 11am to 2pm.
