Neighborhood News: Bang Cookies Opening Cafe on Grove Street, Stephen King Coming to Word JC

**Bang Cookies — formerly known as Bang Me Bakery — is taking over the Coldwell Banker storefront next to the Dunkin Donuts on Grove Street, as originally reported by Jersey Digs. We reached out to Bang Cookies to confirm the news and while there’s no official opening date, the bakery did confirm the opening of a new Grove street cafe. Bang Cookies, which specializes in small-batch organic cookies, was a staple at last year’s downtown farmer’s markets. They’re currently accepting orders online as they prep for the coming farmer’s market season. —Jersey Digs

**NJ Transit and union leaders have reached a tentative agreement to prevent a transit strike. Under the new agreement, there will be no price hikes or changes in transit service. However, not all of the terms of the new deal have been disclosed and the agreement is still pending votes by all of NJ Transit’s 11 train unions. —North Jersey

**Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop recently signed an executive order making Jersey City the first city in New Jersey to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour for municipal workers. The order would affect over 500 full- and part-time city employees. —NJ.com

**County Executive Tom DeGise wants to extend the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system across Route 440 connecting it to Bayfront, a massive residential development planned for the western waterfront. Currently, the system connects Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Union City, and North Bergen. The extension is part of a broader plan to transform the far West Side of Jersey City from previous industrial uses to mixed-use communities. —NJ.com

  1. What was the big bakery in jersey city say in 1968? Anybody remember the bakers name? He was Spanish or Italian! He would probably be around 80ish today! Any info would be so greatly appreciated, you don’t even know.
