They came, they ate ramen, and in the end — there was almost an upchuck upset. But ultimately defending champ @extremestud managed to hold on to his noodle-eating title slurping down 8 bowls of ramen while second-place winner — and first time competitive eater — @girleatsnyc came in a very close second place chowing down 7.5 bowls of ramen.

Presented by Ani Ramen and Sun Noodle, the 2nd Annual Ramen Eating Contest was held yesterday at Ani Ramen’s Jersey City restaurant. The event took place at Ani’s new backyard patio with contestants, press, and onlookers.

All proceeds collected will benefit No Kid Hungry, a campaign that connects kids in need with nutritious food.

And now, for some scenes from the event!

Calm and collected before the competition.

The look of fear (or perhaps regret) as more ramen arrives…

…and keeps coming!

The art of the perfect slurp.

When slurping endless bowls of ramen, you must always hydrate.

Reigning champ stands and takes a breather at bowl 7.

The winners.

The aftermath. (Trust me, you don’t want to know what’s underneath those napkins).
