The Weekender: Earth Day Festivities In Jersey City, Chef’s Table Pop-Up Dinner Hosted By Whealth

Celebrate Earth Day Jersey City-style with a variety of festivities taking place city-wide at City Hall, Liberty State Park, and the Village. Plus, the Liberty Humane Society is throwing an autograph-signing fundraiser with the NJ Devils, Mana Contemporary is unveiling a new exhibition of sculptures, and Whealth is hosting a chef’s table pop-up dinner on Saturday night.

What: OLC School’s 4th Annual Taste of Jersey City 2016
When: Friday, April 22 from 6pm – 10pm
Where: Our Lady of Czestochowa School at 248 Marin Boulevard
The OLC Taste of Jersey City is the perfect opportunity to taste the best cuisines of Jersey City, drink local craft beer, sample wines, and enjoy live entertainment — all while donating to a good cause. Tickets to the event cost $60 per person and all proceeds will benefit the OLC school.

What: Whealth Earth Day Clean Up
When: Saturday, April 23 at 9am
Where: Brunswick Center at 187 Brunswick Street
Start Earth Day with a quick breakfast and a little volunteer work as you spend 1 hour helping to clean up this downtown neighborhood.

What: Earth Day at Liberty State Park
When: Saturday, April 23 from 9am – 4pm
Where: Liberty State Park
Liberty State Park will host Jersey City’s biggest Earth Day party with over 100 vendors for the whole family. Festivities begin at 9am and last through 4pm. Admission is free. There will also be a 5K run at 10am (on-site registration starts at 7.30am) and an Earth Day Nature Path Planting at 9am.

What: Village Park Ribbon Cutting
When: Saturday, April 23 at 10.30am – 11am
Where: Village Park at First Street (Off Brunswick)
Join Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and the Village Neighborhood Association (VNA) for the grand opening of the newly renovated Village Park (formerly First Street Park). The park — which had been closed for years due to vandalism, crime, and a lack of general maintenance — has been completely restored by the VNA, a non-profit corporation formed by Village residents.

What: 3rd Annual Jersey City Earth Day Festival
When: Saturday, April 23 from 11am – 6pm
Where: City Hall at 280 Grove Street
The Jersey City Earth Day Festival is a day-long celebration of sustainability and environmental awareness with New Jersey farm vendors, locally produced goods, live music, and an upcycled/sustainable artists’ market. Vendors include Modcup, JC Veggie Burgers, Lucky Honey Bee, and The Green Radish, among others.

What: Liberty Humane Society and the NJ Devils
When: Saturday, April 23 from 12pm – 2pm
Where: Liberty Humane Society at 235 Jersey City Blvd.
The Liberty Humane Society will be hosting an autograph-signing event with Cory Schneider and Adam Henrique of the New Jersey Devils. The event will take place at the LHS facility at 235 Jersey City Blvd. For each $20 donation made to the shelter, the players will sign one piece of memorabilia. (For an extra $5, you get an autographed photo courtesy of Sports Minded Unlimited.) This is LHS’ second annual NJ Devils signing event.

What: Whealth Chef’s Table Pop-Up Dinner
When: Saturday, April 23 from 7.30pm – 11pm
Where: JCity Realty at 109 Columbus Drive
Join Whealth owner David Trotta for a special pop-up dinner at JCity Realty. This chef’s table dinner includes a selection of small bites followed by a 3-course BYOB dinner. Tickets are $57 per person. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available. The menu includes asparagus and fava beans, braised short rib, and a rhubarb crisp.

What: Mana Contemporary Sculpture Day
When: Sunday, April 24 from 1pm – 6pm
Where: Mana Contemporary at 888 Newark Avenue
In celebration of International Sculpture Day on Sunday, April 24, Mana Contemporary will open a new group exhibition of sculptures on the 5th floor gallery. The free event — presented in collaboration with the International Sculpture Center — will also include the works of actor Anthony Quinn, Ben Keating, and other open artist studios.
