The Weekender: Project Eats, Yelp at 6th Borough Market, Graffiti Party at Port-o Lounge

The Project Eats Food Festival is this weekend’s big headliner, but make sure you don’t miss Friday’s Food Truck Rally, Mana Contemporary’s Truth Booth, Port-o Lounge’s Graffiti party, and Yelp Day at 6th Borough Market.

What: Mana Contemporary Truth Booth
When: Friday & Saturday from 12pm – 6pm
Where: Mana Contemporary at 888 Newark Avenue
The Truth Booth is an interactive art installation that prompts anyone who enters the booth to finish the sentence, “The truth is…” while looking into a camera. Responses are recorded and compiled as part of an ongoing global exhibition. The project is a collaboration by artists Ryan Alexiev, Jim Ricks, William Sylvester and Hank Willis Thomas of the Cause Collective. The booth has traveled from Cape Town, South Africa, to Bamiyan, Afghanistan.

What: Food Truck Rally
When: Friday, June 17 from 6pm – 9pm
Where: Corner of Bay Street & Marin Blvd.
The Morgan is hosting another food truck rally this Friday evening. Join The Angry Crab, IncrediBalls, Cupcakes by Jeannie, and Departed Soles, among others.

What: Project Eats Street Festival
When: Saturday & Sunday from 11am – 7pm
Where: City Hall Plaza at 280 Grove
Back for its third summer, Project Eats is one of downtown’s can’t-miss food fests. The event will feature 40 local (and neighboring) vendors each day as well as up to 15 food trucks. There will be a host of new and first-time vendors at this year’s event including Frankie’s and Third & Vine.

What: Graffiti Party at Port-o Lounge
When: Saturday, June 18 at 11pm
Where: Port-o Lounge at 286 First Street (off Newark Avenue)
Port-o Lounge will host a graffiti party Saturday night to benefit The Artchitectz — a non-profit program that gives students in Jersey City and Newark an artistic outlet while simultaneously beautifying Newark through public murals. Artists from around the tri-state area will paint, interact with guests, and offer canvases for sale. A portion of all proceeds throughout the night and 100% of all art sales will benefit the program.

What: Yelp Day @6th Borough Market 
When: Sunday, June 19 from 11am – 5pm
Where: Hudson Street & Columbus Drive (outside Exchange Place)
Yelp and 6th Borough Market have teamed up for a special market filled with prizes, giveaways, trivia, and more. Now located in a larger space near Exchange Place (on Hudson Street and Columbus Drive), 6th Borough Market features local food, crafts, and arts all rolled into one festive party. The market runs the first and third Sunday of every month through October 16. Vendors rotate, but participants include Squeez’d NJ, Bang Cookies, Bucket & Bay Craft Gelato, Baonanas, But-A-Cake, 37 Ferns, and more.
