Alfalfa Jersey CityHoboken-based Alfalfa is opening in Jersey City this weekend. The health-focused cafe will open in the Powerhouse Arts District at 160 First Street this Saturday (April 8th) from 11am to 5pm, according to their latest IG post.

Alfalfa is known for its menu of healthy eats, in particular its variety of salads. Salads can be customized to your liking with toppings such as tofu, Peruvian chicken thighs, quinoa, and queso blanco. They also offer burritos and 16-ounce cups of bone broth. To help satisfy your sweet tooth, Alfalfa also has a menu of gluten free donuts that includes flavors like tres leches, lemon thyme, and mascarpone.

Alfalfa is the brainchild of founders Dan Londono, Dan Sobsey, Andrew Arrospide, and Ben Sobsey. All four grew up in Hoboken, but attended St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City. After stints at corporate jobs, the foursome returned to Hoboken in search of healthy dining options. Upon seeing there were little-to-no places for healthy eats, they launched a pop-up called Alfalfa at a weekly Hoboken farmer’s market.

In 2019, they partnered with two local restaurateurs to open a pop-up inside Schnackenberg’s Luncheonette. The Hoboken community embraced Alfalfa and eventually the two restaurateurs asked Londono, Sobsey, Arrospide, and Sobsey to take over the space entirely. Thus was born Alfalfa at 1110 Washington Street. In 2021, they opened a location in Santa Monica, CA, and soon they hope to open their third location — Alfalfa Jersey City.

Alfalfa is just one of many new spots to open in the Powerhouse District. Other recent newcomers include the likes of Bourke Street Bakery and Wattle Cafe.
