Bang Cookies is a locally owned bakery that made its debut years ago at the Grove street farmers’ market. Owner George Kuan had been working on his cookie recipe for over 12 years before launching his cookie shop. Kuan tells Jersey City Upfront that he used a playful name for marketing purposes. (The business was originally called Bang Me Bakery).

“The word ‘bang’ in itself connotes loudness, boldness, and a show of energy — the OMG moment when our cookies hit someone’s mouth,” said Kuan.

As the bakery gained popularity — especially with families — Kuan changed the name to Bang Cookies.

Cookie Flavors

The shop bakes cookies that run the gamut from Sea Salt Chocolate Chunk to Macadamia White Chocolate Chunk. Throughout the years, Kuan has also debuted new flavors like their whiskey- and bourbon-infused cookies and their stuffed cookies.

Pricing ranges from $4 to $6. Classic cookies cost $4.50/each, deluxe cookies are $5/each, and stuffed cookies are $5.50/each. Their boozy line costs $6/each. The shop also offers cookie cakes (from $45).

For those wondering, the Bang Cookies Jersey City Heights location, which is where their cookies are baked — will remain open. The Newark Avenue shop will just be one more way for fans to get their hands on their chewy cookies. In addition to the two Jersey City shops, Kuan is also opening a shop inside the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Bang Cookies is one of two new dessert shops recently opened along the Pedestrian Plaza. They’re joined by recently opened Milk and Cream Bar.
