ITA Jersey City: Fontina
Fontina at ITA Kitchen

Finding the best pizza in Jersey City is no easy task. So we’ve created a list of the restaurants we think offer the best pizza in Jersey City right now. These are the spots every pizza lover must visit at least once. From the no-fuss slices at Pizza Masters to the thin-crust pies at Razza, if you’re looking for the best pizza in Jersey City — these are the places you must visit.

March 2022: We’ve added new info on the return of indoor dining at Razza.

Best Pizza in Jersey City
ITA Kitchen

ITA Jersey CityTucked away in McGinely Square is ITA Kitchen, one of the newer pizza spots in town. The restaurant opened just weeks before the pandemic, but managed to survive the city’s lockdown. That’s great news for pizza lovers because ITA offers some of the best pizza in Jersey City. ITA’s pizzas are thick, doughy, and slightly charred. Although they have a steady roster of pies, ITA also offers seasonal specials. Standouts include the Fontina (seasonal), the Italian Stallion, Funghi (pictured), and their classic Margherita. Razza Pizza

Razza PizzaNo Jersey City pizza list is complete without Razza Pizza. Named the best pizza in New York by the New York Times, we love Razza for its blistering, thin-crust pies, which are made with locally sourced ingredients. Among our favorite pies are the Project Hazelnut, the Calabrese, and the Funghi. Razza just announced on social media that it has reopened its doors for limited indoor dining. Indoor dining will be limited the first few months and reservations must be made through Resy. Each week Razza will post when reservations go live. Outdoor dining remains first come, first served. Renato’s Pizza Masters

Pizza Masters Jersey CityBefore Razza and ITA, there was one pizza king in Jersey City — Renato’s. Many locals will argue that Renato’s Pizza Masters is still the best pizza in Jersey City. Their slices are thin crust and served piping hot from the oven with generous mounds of cheese. We also love Renato’s because it’s one of the few Jersey City pizza spots that offers an exceptional grandma slice. When you want a no-fuss slice you can eat while walking down Central Avenue — Pizza Masters is the way to go. (278 Central Avenue) https://pizzamastersjc.com/

Rustique

Rustique pizzaFamily-operated Rustique has been serving pizza for just over a decade. The BYOB eatery is located in a quiet nook in Harsimus Cove, so it often doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Nevertheless, the pizzas are crisp and always packed with flavor. We’re especially big fans of Rustique’s Sicilian brick oven pizza with its crisp edges and chewy interior. Bread & Salt

Bread and Salt pizzaPizza isn’t the main attraction at Bread and Salt. (We’d argue it’s their breads, sandwiches, and pastries). However, pizza is something Bread & Salt does remarkably well. Slices are razor thin with an airy middle and a toasty crust that offers an audible crunch with each bite. Just a heads up, they’re only open Fridays through Sundays from 10am to 4pm. Pizzas are available after 12pm. (435 Palisade Avenue) https://breadandsalt.square.site/

  1. I am curious why Rustique Pizza never makes it on any list of great pizza in Jersey City. Personally, their pies are some of the best in my opinion. It’s time to start showing them some love! I also think they are much better than Renato’s.

    • I do like Rustique (bonus points for BYOB), but their pies haven’t been consistent for me. Sometimes they’ve been amazing and other times just “ok.”

      • That is fair. The times I have gone I haven’t had many issues personally. Usually it is the same guy behind the oven when I order.

  2. Mama Mia, I made so many typos in my original comment I am sending a second one. Please use this instead.

While Pizza Masters makes great pies, may residents in the JC Heights believe Gino’s is even better.
