What you need to know for Wednesday, April 1:

1: Jersey City has 820 confirmed COVID-19 cases (up from 334 last reported on Saturday) and 6 deaths. That’s the most of any county in Hudson County. (It’s also somewhat expected since Jersey City has the biggest population at 260,000). However, Mayor Fulop states that the city is “seeing a decrease in positives day over day from our testing sites.” On day one the city saw 46% positive cases, whereas on day two and day three the number of positive cased dropped to 36% and 31%, respectively.” —Fulop/Twitter

2: New Jersey currently has 18,696 (up from 16,636) positive COVID-19 cases with 267 deaths (up from 198) total. The counties with the most positive cases are:

  • Bergen County: 2,909 (up from 2,482)
  • Essex: 1,900 (up from 1,564)
  • Hudson: 1,606 (up from 1,314)
  • Union: 1,418 (up from 1,213)
  • Passaic: 1,294 (up from 1,091)
  • Middlesex: 1,277 (up from 1,123)
  • info via New Jersey COVID-19 Dashboard (Note: Some counties are performing more tests than others, which could be contributing to the sharp increase in positive cases).

3: Starting Wednesday, April 1, grocery store workers and health care workers who live in Jersey City and are showing symptoms will get preference at the city’s testing sites. “We know front line workers have lots of anxiety w/ all the ppl they help daily + we’re grateful. If easier access to testing helps them — we’ll facilitate,” tweeted the mayor.

4: 35 members of the JCPD and 13 members of the JCFD have tested positive for COVID-19. City officials state this has not affected emergency response times. —NJ.com
