HomeGrown JCThe pandemic continues to wreak havoc among small businesses in Jersey City. The latest casualty is local bar HomeGrown JC, which permanently closed Sunday night. Located at 150 Bay Street, the bar was known for spotlighting New Jersey-based breweries, distilleries, and vineyards.

Founder Kennedy Grey opened the bar last summer inside the existing Headroom venue. Per HomeGrown’s Facebook page:

Hello friends,

We here at Homegrown want to take the time out to thank everyone who supported us since our opening back in July. It has been a difficult and interesting road. (Especially opening during this crazy time to say the least) Thank you to all of performers, musicians, comedians, artist, Dj’s but especially the friends, community and all who came out to help us try and keep the dream of Homegrown and it’s mission alive. It’s with a heavy heart we announce this weekend will be our final weekend open. We also want to give a shout out to all of the breweries and distilleries we’d had the pleasure of carrying and working with. It was a pleasure to have you all a part of our special little concept of offering the best Jersey has to offer. We are open this evening, Saturday and Sunday for our final days of service. Going out with a bang we have the heart of Homegrown JC @kennedygrey28 behind the bar as always, so come out and show some love. Drink specials throughout the weekend. Again huge thank you to all who came out and supported in anyway. We have special guest swinging through tomorrow night as well to help us in going out with a bang and in spirit of community so stay tuned! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Just sending a friendly reminder to continue to support your local businesses and artist, especially during these tough times. Thank you all and cheers friends! -Homegrown

HomeGrown joins the ever-growing list of COVID businesses we’ve lost in Jersey City. Just a few weeks ago, Alex’s Italian Restaurant closed and will soon reopen as Gaia and Loki — a vegan restaurant.

[Correction: We previously stated that Kennedy Grey was owner of HomeGrown. She was in fact one of the founders, GM, and beverage coordinator of the bar].

  1. It’s a shame, they didn’t do a very good job promoting it… I live a few blocks south and never knew it existed. Would’ve loved to have had the chance to support them.

  2. It truly is a shame man… I hate seeing local shops disappear. There is this new grocery website called http://www.hodxpress.com, they work with local markets/farms/bakeries etc. in and around New Jersey. There should me more initiatives like this, there are enough people who would love to support these shops.
