New York-based Ipsa Provisions is bringing its upscale, freezer-friendly meals to Jersey City and Hoboken. Unlike other meal services, which may require you to cook, Ipsa’s meals are delivered frozen and can be heated on a stovetop or oven. The small-batch meals are made from scratch in a commercial kitchen in New York City.

Entrees on Ipsa’s seasonal menu run the gamut from a kimchi beef stew to a Mexican-inspired pozole verde. There are also plenty of vegetarian-friendly options such as a Thai-style coconut curry, eggplant marinara, and an heirloom bean soup. The meals, which serve two to three people, can be kept in your freezer for months.

Co-founders Joshua Brau (Chipotle, Blue Apron) and chef Micah Fredman (Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park) created recipes that highlight organic, local ingredients. They’re targeting foodies who would like to eat more home-cooked meals, but don’t have the time (or the skill) to grocery shop or prep an entire meal. The meals have been featured everywhere from The Strategist to The New Yorker.

Price-wise, the meals range from $15 to $25. (Clearly, these aren’t your ShopRite frozen meals). However, there’s no membership fee or commitment involved. Just place your order online and your meal arrives via courier.

We received a sample delivery consisting of a few entrees and found the entire process to be effortless. Food is delivered in an insulated tote and reheating instructions are located on the food packaging. The food itself is similar to what you’d expect from a high-end restaurant. Ingredients look and taste fresh and the reheating process is as simple as preheating your oven.

One downside is that if you’re counting calories, there’s currently no nutritional info on the site. However, the website lists where Ipsa sources their veggies and proteins. This includes places like Pennsylvania’s Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative, Rhode Island’s Narragansett Creamery, and Pennsylvania’s Happy Valley Meat Co.

To celebrate their New Jersey launch, Ipsa Provisions is offering free delivery to Jersey City (or any location in New Jersey) via coupon “NEWJERSEY”. The coupon is valid through September 30.
