Jersey City rallies

The death of George Floyd — and countless black men and women before him — at the hands of police has sparked outrage and protests throughout the country. This weekend, two peaceful rallies/community gatherings will be held in Jersey City in solidarity with the Floyd family and the countless men and women who have suffered racism and/or police brutality.

Peace in the Streets (Saturday at 11am @West District Police Station)

Jersey City protests

Organized by Black Men United, this community gathering will focus on cleaning up Martin Luther King Drive. It will start at the West District Police Station at 11am.

Rally to End Police Brutality (Saturday at 4pm @City Hall)

The Rally to End Police Brutality is being organized by the Black Diaspora Club. The peaceful protest will take place in front of City Hall at 280 Grove Street on Saturday at 4pm. Anyone from the class of 2020 is encouraged to march in/bring their cap and gown.

Black Men United (Monday at 12pm)

The Jersey City-based Black Men United coalition will hold a protest this afternoon in support of George Floyd and to demand transparency in the chaotic Bostwick Avenue street fight that occurred a few weeks back. For the location of today’s protest, you must DM one of the organizers.

Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition (Tuesday at 4pm @City Hall)

Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Executive Director Pamela Johnson will lead a march on City Hall demanding reform and transparency from the JCPD.

8 Minutes of Silence & Solidarity (Tuesday at 6pm @Pedestrian Mall)

Attendees of this 8-minute vigil will be asked to kneel in solidarity with George Floyd and everyone who has experienced systematic racism. The vigil will occur at the Pedestrian Plaza.

Allies 4 Justice (Friday at 1pm @Sinatra Park/Hoboken)

Allies 4 JusticeAllies 4 Justice is organizing Hoboken’s first protest, which will march from Maxwell Place Park to Pier A Park along the waterfront. The protest will last from 1pm to 4pm.
