Prato BakeryHeights residents have a new spot for coffee, schiacciata, and cantucci. Prato Bakery has opened its Heights cafe at 296 Palisade Avenue (on the corner of Cuneo Place). The cafe owners made the announcement via an Instagram post on May 23.

We named Prato one of the best cafes in Jersey City. All Prato locations are operated by Simone Bertini, who originally started with Il Cantuccio in New York’s West Village. Bertini then moved his bakery to Jersey City and opened at 61 Erie Street (currently home to Scram JC) before moving to 371 Fourth Street. In 2018, Prato Bakery expanded to Hoboken and in 2021 it took over the empty space left behind by Bucket & Bay.

The bakery offers a menu of sweets, focaccia sandwiches, breads, cookies, and Italian-style coffee. We especially like it because it’s one of the few places you can get a good cup of black coffee (while enjoying Italian music). Prato’s Heights cafe will be open 7am to 4pm Mondays through Saturdays and 8am to 4pm on Sundays.
