NYRR Newport Mile

The NYRR Newport Mile is now open for registration. After a year of cancellations, the NYRR Newport Mile will be Jersey City’s first big in-person race. The race will be held on Sunday, May 23 as part of the NYRR One Mile Series, a monthly series of races that take place in each of the five boroughs (as well as one race in Jersey City). Admission is $25.

The race will adhere to the NYRR’s “Return to Racing” guidelines. That means mask wearing at all times (even while you run), temperature checks, social distancing, and staggered starts. Racing bibs will be mailed to runners prior to race day (there will be no pickup option). You can sign up for the race via the NYRR website.

NYRR Newport Mile course description

The NYRR Newport Mile will start on Washington Boulevard between 14th Street and Newport Parkway. Runners will head south on Washington Boulevard toward 4th Street, where they will make a U-turn and head north on the opposite side of Washington Boulevard toward the finish line, which will be located between 14th Street and Newport Parkway. (Basically, you start at Newport Green, run south toward Avalon Cove/Doubletree by Hilton, and then run back north to Newport Green).

Upon finishing the race, runners will receive a pre-bagged swag bag, which will include a NYRR-branded face mask, water, and snacks. This is the second big NYRR race in Jersey City since the organization expanded across the Hudson back in 2019.
