PATH fare increase

A new round of PATH fare increases will go into effect this Sunday, November 1. That means this week is your last chance to refill your SmartLink card before the fare increases begin.

Last year, the Port Authority approved a capital plan that included inflation-based increases in tolls and fares for the first time in more than four years. The second phase of the plan kicks in this Sunday with adjustments to PATH’s multi-trip SmartLink discounts. The PA says the hikes are necessary to fund redevelopment projects it has underway. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you can expect to pay starting on Sunday.

PATH Fare Increase At a Glance
  • Single fare: was $2.75 will remain $2.75
  • 10-trip SmartLink Card: was $25 will cost $26
  • 20-trip SmartLink Card: was $50 will cost $52
  • 40-trip SmartLink Card: was $100 will cost $104
  • 1-day unlimited SmartLink Card: was $10 will cost $10.50
  • 7-day unlimited SmartLink Card: was $34.50 will cost $36
  • 30-day unlimited SmartLink Card: was $106 will cost $110.25
  • Senior fare: was $1.25 will remain $1.25

The PA says it’s made some “tangible progress” with PATH service in the past few years. This includes reinstating weekend WTC PATH service 6 months ahead of schedule, installation of real-time train PATH info on-platform clocks, adding cell service to stations, the debut of the new Harrison PATH station, and advancements in construction of the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center at WTC.

Meanwhile, the PA recently announced it would close the Exchange Place PATH station as it replaces the station’s escalators, which were damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

  1. Lots of increases but no real reason for them. Delayed train service. Slow train. Traffic in the tunnels and bridges. No quality of life fixes. Just pay more money and get the same service. Since we have to pay , how about they have to pay fines and fees when service is stopped ?

  2. Fares go up immediately but wage increases take 5+ years after a bill is signed, only in America.

  3. Based on isthepathrunning.com service hasn’t improved at all as promised, especially in the morning. Yet they want to raise fares right away?

The real time train info is fake whenever there are delays anyways, and barely works when you’re at the first station.

  4. This is unbelievable. How about you start running the path from grove to wtc on the weekends and stop with the Hoboken stop over. 23% increase on the monthly is much higher than CPI changes and Inflation. Greed

  5. It’s crazy the fares increase but not my wage and service from the PATH is horrible and always delays no matter what

  6. Should show that there are improvements in the railway system. not in progress construction before raising the price. Weekends no path to WTC, need to take ferry ( free but inconvenient). Packed during rush hour and constant delays.
Why raise the price now? If system was better or more efficient, I would gladly pay more, but no reason now.

  7. Would be good to get some updates on progress on the tunnel repairs which are causing weekend service to WTC to be cancelled for 2 years.
