Natural wine shop in Jersey City

Oenophiles looking for a laid-back shop to score some natural wines in Jersey City must add Riverview Wine to their list. Situated in between two of Jersey City’s best BYOB spots — Corto and Bread and Salt — Riverview Wine is a welcome addition to a bustling neighborhood.

Located at 43 Bowers, the shop specializes in natural wines, which includes organic, biodynamic, and sustainable wines. These wines include as few additives as possible. In some cases, their production also relies on the lunar calendar.

Our goal is to offer natural wines from every region, says owner and local resident Laura Marchetti. A supporter of low-to-no-intervention wine-making, Marchetti has turned the former Mahnke’s Deli into a sleek-but-casual wine boutique showcasing her passion for natural wines. The shop opened this past summer, but they’re already offering wines that span the globe from Georgia to California.

One of the main vendors at the shop will be The Maritime Republic Imports, owned by Chris Leo — formerly of downtown’s PS Wine Bar. Under Leo’s helm, PS Wine Bar was named one of the country’s top 15 natural wine bars by Food & Wine.

Marchetti says the shop will also carry beers and locally-made cheeses. They’re already carrying pimento cheese from Darke Pines and bread from Choc-o-Pain Heights. As an added bonus, the shop is just a quick walk away from BYOB restaurants Corto and The Franklin.

Residents can also expect wine tastings. We recently attended their sold out Croatian Wine Tasting, which was held a few blocks away at The Cliff. The night included Croatian food/apps and tastings of seven Croatian wines.

Riverview Wine is currently open seven days a week. You can follow them on Instagram for news about the shop and tastings.
