Saigon Bistro in Jersey City Heights is making killer bowls of pho

New Vietnamese eatery opens on Central Avenue

Saigon Bistro Jersey CityOne of our favorite meals of 2020 came courtesy of Saigon Bistro. The Vietnamese restaurant quietly opened in November and has generally flown under the radar, but make no mistake — Saigon Bistro offers some tasty Vietnamese eats.

Located at 514 Central Avenue, the restaurant has all your classics like Vietnamese spring rolls, banh mi, and vermicelli platters. However, the dishes we especially recommend are the pho and curry noodles. The rich bowls of pho are accompanied by a savory beef broth complimented by aromatics like ginger, star anise, and cinnamon. You can customize your bowl with beef/brisket, pork, chicken, beef meatballs, or shrimp. Likewise, you can add extras like tripe, tendon, or more veggies.

We also liked the curry noodles, which appear almost neon in color and pack a strong turmeric flavor. They’re made with yellow curry and are served with mixed vegetables. Prices at Saigon Bistro are very reasonable with entrees in the $10 to $14 range. (Full menu is here). Portions are also generous for what you pay.

Saigon Bistro is closed Mondays, but otherwise open from 11:30am till 9pm. (Fridays they open at 4pm). They’re offering takeout, dine-in, and delivery.

  1. We tried Saigon Bistro after reading this blog post. It was so good we’ve already been back. We like the simple menu and everything we tried has been fresh and excellent. It’s the best Vietnamese we’ve had in JC so far.

    • Great to hear! Their pho is excellent and so are the curry noodles. Looking forward to trying more of their dishes as well!
