Labor Day weekend is here and it’s time to say goodbye to summer. From a casual bike ride to Lincoln Park to a paella festival at Surf City, here are the best local events happening this weekend. Plus, a reminder that there will be WTC PATH service through the holiday.

Friday Events

What: Departed Soles Beer Release
When: through Sunday
Where: 150 Bay Street
Jersey City brewery Departed Soles is debuting a new beer just in time for the long weekend. Space Tater Hazy IPA is described as a “balance of hop bitterness and tropical fruits.” It’ll be available at the tasting room all weekend long.

What: Bike JC Light-Up Ride to the West Side
When: Friday, August 30 from 7:30pm
Where: Pedestrian Plaza (on Barrow Street)
Bike JC is hosting a casual bike ride from downtown JC to Lincoln Park and the West Side. The friendly/group bike ride will finish up at Pet Shop Bar for a post-bike drink or two.

What: Surf City Paella Festival
When: through Friday, September 22
Where: 1 Marin Boulevard
Surf City is paying tribute to Spain’s national dish — the paella — with a limited-run menu that features 10 different styles of paellas. Dishes include a Lobster Paella, Chicken Paella, Vegetarian Paella, and a Fisherman Paella (topped with flounder/calamari/shrimp).

Saturday Events

What: Bucket & Bay Gelato-Making Class for Kids
When: Saturday, August 31 from 11am to 12pm
Where: 150 Bay Street
Drop off the kids at Bucket & Bay for a children only gelato-making workshop. The 1-hour class will have kids (ages 6 to 14) making their own batch of gelato. Tickets are $24 per child.

What: The Lutze Rescue Bash
When: Saturday, August 31 from 2pm to 7pm
Where: 3 Second Street
Looking for someone to cuddle with now that the weather is getting cooler? Non-profit dog rescue Hounds in Pounds will be at The Lutze this afternoon with plenty of puppers in need of a forever home. Come say hello, rub some bellies, and maybe even take a doggo home.
